Archaeological investigation now complete at St Michaels Primary School

The archaeological investigation is now complete at St Michaels CofE Primary School in St Albans. The Roman finds were spectacular, rediscovering one corner of the Basilica at the centre of Verulamium. A 3D model has been made by Oxford Archaeology and can be viewed interactively using this link. https://skfb.ly/6yzF9

The dig has now been covered over to a specification agreed with Historic England and the school extension is being built on top. The modelling enabled the pile foundations to be bored avoiding the remains and a large number of finds were recovered for the museum opposite the school. Over 500 people attended the public open day.
