Our History

Synergy was founded in 2006 as a result of a strategic merger between CM Parker Browne, Cook and Butler and Ottley Morrison. Subsequent mergers in 2008 with Bare, Leaning & Bare and Johnson & Partners further complemented the practice. These mergers brought together over 130 years of expertise and have provided Synergy with a depth of knowledge, authority and the reputation which characterises our practice today. We will continue to actively pursue business growth to continue to enhance our practice and promote outstanding service.

CM Parker Browne

Parker & Browne, as the company was first called, was founded in London as a practice of chartered quantity surveyors in 1955. In 1982 a building surveying division was added and project management services followed on in 1989.The practice expanded by merging with JB Marks & Partners in 1999 and Close Morton & Company in 2000 to form CM Parker Browne. CM Parker Browne had a broad spread of clients and services, developing particular expertise in the retail, education and residential sectors.

Cook and Butler

Cook and Butler were inaugurated in 1961 as a practice of chartered Quantity Surveyors in central London. This firm’s reputation had been built on long established client relationships and repeat business which continues to be part of Synergy’s strength today. Prior to the merger with Synergy in 2007, Cook and Butler offered a wide range of consultancy services and had developed expertise in the education, ecclesiastical, hotel, retail, residential and industrial sectors.

Ottley Morrison

Ottley Morrison was a quantity surveying and project management practice. The company was established in Manchester in 1996 and specialised in the private sector working across a wide range of sectors including commercial, high end residential, education and retail.

Bare, Leaning & Bare

Amalgamated with Synergy in 2008, Bare, Leaning & Bare, which was founded in 1904, grew to become a well respected cost management practice with extensive experience in the repair, alteration and conservation of listed buildings, churches and cathedrals throughout the UK. Bare, Leaning & Bare also developed expertise in other disciplines including project management and other sectors include education, healthcare, retail, residential and commercial.

Johnson & Partners

Founded in 1961, Johnson & Partners worked across a variety of sectors but specialised in education, historic and residential projects. Johnson & Partners also had extensive experience in social, private and speculative housing, including refurbishments and new residential developments achieving some notably successful planning permissions on the way. The practice merged with Synergy in 2008.

Andrew Turner & Company

This distinguished and highly respected firm of Chartered Quantity Surveyors and Construction Cost Managers joined Synergy in 2021. Originally established in 1987, Andrew Turner & Company has amassed a tremendous track record especially in the residential, commercial and leisure sectors. Projects include the Baitul Futuh Mosque in South London, Travelodge Hotel in Cricklewood Broadway and numerous high end residential properties.

Sawyer Fisher (Epsom)

Established in 1959, Sawyer Fisher (Epsom) merged with Synergy  in April 2022. Sawyer Fisher (Epsom) has a vast range of experience including historic buildings and ancient monuments, prestigious places of worship, education regeneration and new build, residential developments, museums and visitor centres and urban and rural landscaping. Their impressive client list including Westminster Abbey, Leeds Castle, Westminster School as well working with London Diocese and London Diocese for schools for over 30 years. This exciting union strengthens our considerable experience in a number of specialist fields, including the historic sector, and supports our continued growth.
