Synergy win a Kingston Upon Thames Society Townscape Award
The Kingston upon Thames Society exists to promote high standards of planning, conservation and design in the Royal Borough and our Building Surveyors are very proud to have been selected by the Society to receive one of their six biennial ‘Townscape Awards’, which was accepted on behalf of Synergy by Nick Inskip (retired founding BS partner) at a presentation meeting hosted by the Society on 20th November 2013. The presentation was made by the Mayor of the Royal Borough.
The awards are made biennially for buildings or related projects completed in the previous two years that, in the view of the Society, ‘have made a significant contribution to the townscape of the Royal Borough’. The three year project to restore and extend St Raphael’s Catholic Church (Grade 11* Listed), completed in March 2012, was described as an excellent project and very deserving of an award. Our Building Surveyors were congratulated on the scheme and the chairman stressed that it was very unusual for the recipient of an award not to be an Architect.
The project to restore the fabric and interior of the church and to construct a new parish house and parish hall facilities was carried out in three phases, over a three year period. St Raphael’s is one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture in Britain, designed by the eminent architect Charles Parker. Our Building Surveyors are delighted to have received this award and remain honoured to have been entrusted with the project by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark and the Historic Churches Committee.
