Our Projects: Salesian Community House

As well as providing a home for members of the order who had previously been in unsuitable community accommodation, the community house also provides short-stay accommodation for Salesians and youth groups visiting from elsewhere in the UK and abroad and serves as a venue for Salesians’ community activities.

The house contains en-suite study/bed rooms for residents and visitors, youth group overnight communal bedrooms with showers and toilets, a library, a lounge, meeting rooms, a multi-purpose room, laundry, kitchen and communal dining and, most importantly, a very unique copper-clad chapel with screen window niches aligned to provide views of the glorious mature trees within the newly landscaped garden.

The garden itself is backed by an old colonnade and boundary wall, the refurbishment of which had to be dealt with carefully to minimise disturbance to occupants of the adjoining houses. The building  achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating.
