Whitehall Museum makes the shortlist
We were delighted to hear that Whitehall Museum in Sutton has made the shortlist amongst some very strong contenders for the Architects Journal Retrofit Award.
Situated in a conservation area, Whitehall Museum is a grade II historic timber framed Tudor house building built in the early 1500’s. The original Tudor structure has been extended every 100 years and is a hybrid of different periods. The sensitive design by Curl La Tourelle Head Architecture gives the building a new lease of life with renovation works, improvements in energy efficiency, and two extensions. The project also includes significant accessibility improvements ensuring wheelchair visitors can now access most of the interior of one of Sutton’s most historic buildings.
The project was assisted by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
