It’s a double! RICS Social value Awards – South East Region

We were thrilled to hear that Harris Academy, Sutton has been shortlisted for the South East Region RICS Social Impact Awards 2020 in the Education category.  The awards are the only nationally recognised awards programme that show the impact our built environment has on people’s lives, celebrating projects that make a positive difference.

A landmark project, Harris Academy Sutton, is the first secondary school in the UK to be designed and constructed to Passivhaus standards. Built by London Borough of Sutton and run by Harris Federation the building opened in September 2019 and is the ‘Gateway’ site for the innovative new London Cancer Hub masterplan for the redevelopment of the former Sutton Hospital site; a collaboration between Sutton, the Royal Marsden and the Institute of Cancer Research. Read more about this project here.

But the good news does not stop there. We were also pleased to hear that the North West Washrooms project at West Horsley Place was also shortlisted in the heritage category. The project involved the creation of fully accessible washroom facilities within the magnificent Grade I listed house dating from the mid-15th Century.  This project forms an initial phase of a much wider project to conserve the house and the other buildings within the estate.  These works are allowing the house being opened to the public for the first time in a thousand years, providing a welcoming space for the community to share and enjoy with arts, culture, history and nature at its heart.  More information on this project can be found here.

The South East Region Category Winners and Project of the Year winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Thursday 11 June at Hilton at The Ageas Bowl, Southampton.

Our fingers are crossed!
