Whyteleafe “Sponge School” is an Education Estates Winner!

We’re thrilled to share that Whyteleafe Primary School has won the Inspiring Learning Spaces category at the Education Estate Awards in Manchester last night! We provided Building Surveying/Project Management services to GLF Schools and Synergy’s Neil Walters and Michael Leslie were delighted to attend the evening.
It’s a richly deserved win. A school that repeatedly flooded has been transformed into a biodiverse haven. By working with water rather than against it, the project threads green infrastructure and SuDS throughout the site to soak up and slow surface run-off.
The result is reduced flood risk, space for nature to flourish, and a hands-on learning environment where pupils can immerse themselves in the abundance of new flora and fauna around them. The school’s new natural landscape invites joyful exploration and play across the curriculum.
Additional flood protection measures included anti-flood air bricks, an attenuation tank and doorway barriers.
Congratulations to the school and the whole project team on this incredible achievement!
