Synergy are providing Project Management and Quantity Surveying services for the re-roofing of the bell tower at Bath Abbey, following several leaks into the bell chamber.
The programme of work is taking place throughout the spring and involves the replacement of the 1960s lead covering with a modern EPDM membrane which has a much longer lifespan and is less prone to leaking. This will be paired with a durable, hard-wearing walkway surface, helping to ensure safer access for essential maintenance in the future.
Alongside this, repairs are being carried out to the timber and stone supporting structures, ensuring the historic fabric of the building is preserved for many years to come.
This project marks the first phase in a programme of re-roofing and structural work at the Abbey over the coming years, including vital masonry and structural repairs and improvements to visitor routes across the Nave and Chancel roofs. This also includes the installation of solar PVs and new flood lighting to improve the Abbey’s environmental footprint.
Synergy are working alongside the Abbey architects, St Ann’s Gate Architects, with structural input from Pinder Structural Consulting. The works are being undertaken by Emery Brothers Ltd.
