Rising of a New Science Space at Weald of Kent Grammar School

The works on a new science block are progressing swiftly at Weald of Kent Grammar School in Tonbridge.

The steel frame has now been erected supported on a piled ground floor slab. Forthcoming works include the installation of a hollowcore concrete first floor and brick and block cavity walls with full fill insulation, surmounted by a mono pitch timber roof.

The new two-storey building will provide a safe, flexible and contemporary environment for both staff and students to enjoy the science curriculum. The internal fit out will include modern laboratory Trespa benching, a practical teaching space and demonstration area.

During construction, the Covid-19 outbreak has provided challenges for the school, design team and contractor to overcome. Careful planning and coordination were critical to ensure works progressed to programme. By adopting an agile approach, Synergy have been able to adapt to new Government restrictions, work around material availability and a flexible site set up to facilitate social distancing.

The school are looking forward to using their much-needed new facility which is due to complete in December 2020.

Synergy are providing Building Surveying services on this project.
