We are delighted to be supporting Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet with the restoration of their Main Building, returning it to its 1932 splendour. This marks the first major programme of works since the building’s extension in the 1950s.
The project has been made possible through two successful Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) bids, securing £2m for elevation repairs and roof replacement works, prepared and submitted by Synergy in collaboration with the school. An additional £0.5m was contributed by the Friends of Queen Elizabeth’s charity.
Behind the scaffolding currently enveloping the whole building, an extensive programme of elevation repairs are underway. Works include the repair and replacement of coping stones, detailed stonework repairs around windows, and the cleaning, repointing and protection of the existing brickwork, alongside internal decorations. Rainwater goods — including gutters, hoppers and downpipes — are also being fully replaced to improve drainage performance.
At roof level, the flat and pitched roofs are being replaced across the entire building, including the installation of over 130,000 new tiles. This is being delivered alongside new thermal insulation, replacement rooflights, repairs to high-level box gutters, and the refurbishment of the original clocktower.
These improvements will significantly enhance the building’s energy efficiency, further supported by the installation of solar panels on the south-west facing pitched roof adjacent to the Main School Hall.
This project not only preserves the school’s architectural heritage but also ensures the building is fit for the future.
