Our Projects: Caterham School Sports Centre Extension
Caterham School’s sports centre has a brand new extension providing new and improved facilities.
The purpose designed, professional gym has tripled in size and includes a new mezzanine floor area. It is a spacious, vibrant space for exercise and provides cutting-edge equipment. Additional changing rooms have been created along with new offices and sports classrooms.
The extension houses a new café and viewing platform that overlooks the all-weather pitch extending along the length of the centre.
The enhanced sports facility has benefitted both the pupils at Caterham and the local community, as it is open for public use outside of teaching hours and by local state-maintained school partners and community sports groups.
Works to the building took place within a very tight site and it was important the existing centre remained fully operational during construction. This was achieved through careful planning and site segregation, phased working and Just in Time (JIT) deliveries to ensure a safe and streamlined construction process.
Building into a banked site required innovative construction methods during the excavation stages. Ground reinforcement techniques such as retaining walls and soil nailing were used to stabilise and secure the slope safely.
Synergy has a long-standing relationship with Caterham School and have supported with numerous projects over the years, including the construction of the school’s existing sports centre in 1990.
Sport is an essential part of Caterham School’s curriculum and it has a renowned reputation for sporting excellence. The improved centre continues to help individuals find joy in physical activities, advance their skills and pursue their sporting passions competitively.
