St Swithun’s School, Indoor Courts

Client: St Swithun's School

Location: Winchester

St Swithun’s School in Winchester has unveiled a striking new sports facility, providing covered accommodation for four tennis, three netball and eight pickleball courts.

The centre is built using a glulam timber structure with a tensile fabric roof, creating a space that feels light and spacious given its scale, and finished with Australian Open True Blue acrylic flooring.

With around 25% of PE lessons previously lost to bad weather, the new facility replaces four existing outdoor courts and sits alongside eight others, ensuring girls no longer miss out on tennis or netball. Sport remains firmly at the heart of school life whatever the forecast, empowering students to participate, train and enjoy sport throughout the year, regardless of the weather.

Alongside the courts, the facility includes a new performance strength and conditioning suite and a prominent spectator gallery, giving both players and spectators a first-class environment for training and competition.

The centre’s position on site also created an opportunity to extend the existing car park with additional spaces, complete with EV charging points, and a new direct access point from Alresford Road, improving access to the centre while reducing traffic flow around the main school campus.

Outside of lesson time, the facility is open for wider community use, extending its benefits well beyond the school gates.
