High View’s new extension gives the school’s existing wellbeing offering a dedicated home — a comfortable space where all children, including those with SEND, are supported. It means pupils can get extra help when needed, without leaving mainstream education.
Synergy provided building surveying and design services for the £569K extension, on site from May to November 2025.
Single storey and set to the rear of the school, the extension connects to the existing building via a hallway allowing easy access to the new space.
At its centre, is one open-plan classroom, with a kitchen, classroom/dining area and a distinct play and relaxation area. It also includes three support/office rooms plus an accessible WC.
Bi-fold doors open the classroom up to the outside where a sensory and quiet area is formed via ‘crinkle crankle’ wall. This type of wall creates a safe boundary to the area, and it’s natural coves give children pockets for exploration or moments alone to reduce overstimulation.
Materials and finishes were chosen with care. A natural colour palette both internally and externally creates a calming environment. The extension is fully electric and is powered by air source heat pumps for a more sustainable build.
