Our Projects: Dunottar School, New Assembly Hall
Dunottar is a vibrant independent day school in Surrey for pupils aged 11-18. The school is renowned for its excellent teaching, attentive support and providing a nurturing environment that helps to develop every pupil for life beyond school.
The new assembly hall is the second exciting project Synergy have been working on with the school after the construction of their new sixth form centre. Completed in January 2021, the new hall now enables whole-school assemblies to be held and is an ideal space for pupils to practice music and drama and host school productions - a subject very important to the school.
The 900m2 hall has been designed in keeping with the current historic Grade II listed buildings and integrates perfectly with the rest of the school site. It includes a stage with tiered seating and music and drama classrooms along with music practice rooms.
Throughout this project, the teams were faced with the challenge of working across a very tight site. The hall was constructed within a couple of metres of adjacent structures on all sides, including a mere 4m wide access point to the site for deliveries and the construction team. The project team successfully overcame these difficulties by creating a two-way crossing system at the school gates for lorries and pupils. This carefully considered operation kept pupils separated from construction, ensuring their safety and minimised disruption to the school’s working day.
