Client: London Borough of Sutton / Oru Space

Location: London Borough of Sutton

Contract: £6m

Oru Sutton is a new vibrant hub for co-working and leisure in the heart of Sutton High Street, creating an environment for community connection.

The project is part of Sutton Town Council’s regeneration plan to revitalise the high street and create a sustainable, community anchored and economically thriving town centre.

Housed in a former BHS building that sat empty after the retailer went into administration, Oru Sutton is an exemplar of how we can breathe new life into existing unused spaces. The goal was to create a multi-purpose centre that would benefit a wide range of different people.

After being creatively retrofitted, Oru Sutton includes a 500 person capacity co-working space with meeting rooms and offices to hire, a Sri Lankan inspired café, a rooftop community garden, a nursery and a wellbeing quarter that hosts classes and workshops.

This project was funded by Oru Space, the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund and Grow Back Greener Fund, the Strategic Investment Pot through BIG South London, the Government’s Future High Streets Fund and council investment.
