Our Projects: The Courts

Located in Bristol City Centre on Bridewell Street, the derelict Old Magistrates’ Court has been transformed into a new Creative Enterprise Hub by the Creative Youth Network charity.

The Victorian building was used to deliver sentences to young men and women before closing in 1975 and deteriorating after years of neglect.

The Grade II Listed building has been renovated and reclaimed to provide a home for young people in creative industries and community projects.

Following a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the historic fabric, fine interior and original courts have undergone major repair work to repurpose the building for its new users.

The Courts is committed to supporting creatives from all backgrounds as they begin their careers. Alongside providing industry workspace, the charity runs a consistent programme of accessible events and workshops where young people can explore their creative passions and develop networks.

Tiled Victorian foyers and four courtrooms form the ground floor and provide space for tenants and events. The first, second and third floors welcome a growing community of businesses, not-for-profits and professionals.
