Update on Round 2 of the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund

The Department for Education has just released new information regarding Round 2 of the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund financial year 2014-15.

Round 2 funding is aimed at recently converted academies (since December 2013) that did not apply for Round 1 and those with academy orders signed on or before 1 June 2014.

Academies can apply for one project of up to £500,000 to tackle building condition issues. For example to renew roofs, windows or toilet areas or to address compliance issues such as fire protection systems, electrical upgrades or asbestos removal. Expansion projects will not be supported in Round 2.

The key dates to note are:

  • Applications must be submitted through the designated online application portal, which will be available by 13 June 2014.
  • All projects must be completed with all funding spent by 31 March 2015.
  • The deadline for the submission of applications is Monday 21 July 2014.

The Department for Education highlighted that Round 1 was more than three times oversubscribed and the quality of bids meant that about half the applications were successful. With competition for funding so fierce, getting the advice of a professional team with proven success can be one way to ensure your application gets noticed.
