£2.3bn a year to fix ‘crumbling classrooms’

Todays spending review offers a ray of hope for state schools in the United Kingdom.
The government have today reaffirmed their commitment to rebuild over 500 schools through the School Rebuilding Programme, providing around £2.4 billion in each of the next four years.
In addition, the government has also committed to expanding the programme beyond the current School Rebuilding period as part of their 10 Year Infrastructure Strategy, providing a programme out to 2034-35.
The government has also announced an increase in annual maintenance investment in line with inflation, rising to £2.3 billion in 2029-30 to improve the condition of the school estate. This is an increase of over £400 million per year by 2029-30, compared with 2024-25.
This is welcome news for our school clients, and we look forward to supporting our clients in addressing critical issues within their school estates.
