Our Projects: Saracens School Kitchen Fire Reinstatement

Saracens High School is proud to provide a “family lunch” dining experience for all students, offering pupils and adults the opportunity to sit and eat a hot meal together each day. Their professional catering team serve healthy and nutritious meals ensuring pupils have the energy for learning throughout the school day.

But this all came to a stop on Saturday 20th May 2023 when there was a fire in the main school kitchen. The fire was fortunately contained within the kitchen area and did not spread further within the school building.

Synergy’s Building Surveying team were promptly brought in by the loss adjustors to support the school to get hot lunches quickly back in action and to oversee the full reinstatement of the kitchen and associated works.

Synergy’s Building Surveying team rapidly coordinated the installation of temporary kitchen buildings and all necessary services required. This meant that by mid-June a 4-bay temporary kitchen facility was fully installed enabling the school to serve their nutritious hot lunches whilst the kitchen strip out and reinstatement works were underway.

The kitchen reinstatement works, which cost just over £545,000, included a full commercial kitchen fit out with all M&E aspects, fireproofing and stopping. The brand-new kitchen fit out also included a chef’s office, pantry, walk in fridge freezer, staff changing and toilet facilities, a new replacement fire shutter and redecoration.

The works were completed and handed over to the school to begin preparing their lunch services from October 9th, 2023.

School testimonial:

“Synergy took the stress out of this difficult situation, proposing and bringing in an excellent solution to the significant problem of how to feed a hot meal to pupils and staff. The temporary kitchen was everything we needed and was in place remarkably quickly, craned into place during a school day, with no issues. Our catering team were then able to continue to provide 850 healthy hot lunches within an hour. At the same time work was undertaken to provide a brand new kitchen, with a few enhancements too. Synergy managed the whole process and the various contractors involved efficiently, which greatly reduced the burden on the management team and school operations were able to continue with minimal impact. “ Mrs Edwards CFOO Saracens MAT
