Canalside – Sheerwater Leisure Centre now complete
We are delighted that the new leisure centre at Bishop David Brown School, which is part of the Canalside development, is now complete.
The new facility which will be used by the school, local sports clubs and the community, includes a 25-metre pool and teaching pool with moveable floor, a 5-court sports hall with dividing wall, studios, sauna and steam room, gym and indoor and outdoor changing facilities.
The complex will be heated, in part, by low-carbon energy provided by air source heat pumps and solar panels. Also provided is a full-size, floodlit 3G football pitch which will be the home pitch for Sheerwater FC and rugby pitch.
To facilitate the development the Bishop David Brown School’s existing music suite, kitchen and dining hall were demolished. New dedicated kitchen and dining facilities have been provided for the school in the leisure centre. Synergy is also supporting the school with internal remodelling to provide a new music suite within their existing school accommodation.
The final phase of works will be completed by Summer 2021 and will include parking facilities, cricket practice nets and two further grass pitches.
