Duncan joined Bare, Leaning & Bare in 1990 and progressed within the practice to become a Partner of Synergy following the merger of the two companies in 2008 and then taking on the strategic role of Managing Partner in 2020.
He has significant experience in the conservation, restoration and refurbishment of historic buildings, ranging from cathedrals, country houses and town houses to humble cottages. He is the retained Quantity Surveyor for St Paul’s Cathedral and his client list also includes National Trust, Bath Abbey and Emily Estate (UK) Ltd.
Duncan lectures on Costs and Contracts for Historic Buildings to students undertaking the Historic Building Conservation course at Bath University and also to the delegates on the RICS Conservation Summer School.
Simon is one of the founding designated members when it was incorporated as an LLP. With 35 years’ Quantity Surveying experience, he is a major driving force behind where the business is today.
As Senior Partner he is responsible for all commercial aspects of the corporate LLP.
He recently published a paper ‘A decade of change for the construction industry’, which draws attention to changes within the Professional Indemnity Insurance market and the impact this is having on clients, consultants and contractors.
Simon’s extensive experience spans across a wide range of sectors on projects from £500k to £450m. He was responsible for £300m of infrastructure works in the build up to London 2012 and is currently the commercial lead on a significant £400m housing regeneration scheme.
He has been commissioned as an Expert on many high-profile legal cases, in matters involving disputes over Quantum, resulting in him representing clients at the Land Tribunal, Construction Litigation Hearings and Mediations.
Originally from a contracting background, Rob joined the practice (which was then Parker & Browne) in 1994 and became a Full Partner in 2000. Rob is the Partner responsible for the Marketing and Business Development function at Synergy.
A Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Rob has significant experience in the education, ecclesiastical, mixed use, commercial and leisure sectors.
In particular, Rob has gained a tremendous reputation within the independent education sector with experience across a wide range of projects including sports centres, sixth form centres, science buildings, new junior schools, libraries, multi-purpose halls, performing arts centres, boarding houses, academic centres, design and technology schools as well as Masterplans.
Rob’s knowledge of ecclesiastical buildings is also second to none. Over many years he has led and implemented the delivery of numerous church projects.
Anne-Marie joined Arthur Young in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1988 and on completion of her Articles of Clerkship went on to establish her own accountancy practice in Harare, specialising in tax, business management and consultancy, including mergers and acquisitions. The client base was very prestigious including close ties with Ernst and Young.
Anne-Marie immigrated to the United Kingdom with her family in 2001 and joined Lee Associates and then The GBC Partnership, now part of Moore Stephens LLP (Guildford), managing the audit department. It was with The GBC Partnership, back in 2006, that she first became involved in the financial affairs of CM Parker Browne, a founding partnership of Synergy, and in 2008, the LLP asked Anne-Marie to join the organisation as Finance Partner, a position that she has held since July 2008.
Anne-Marie's strong technical knowledge and broad practical and professional experience is very beneficial to the continued guidance of the growth and development of Synergy.
Peter became a chartered architect and RIBA member in 1981, having studied at the Liverpool University School of Architecture, graduating in 1980. Peter then worked for the London practice of GMBN architects, and was project architect for the design and physical arrangements at the Papal Mass at Wembley Stadium in 1982, having won the commission in competition.
Peter joined Johnson and Partners in 1984, becoming an Equity Partner in 1986 and is now a Full Partner of Synergy following the merger in 2008. He has gained considerable experience in private and social housing developments, educational projects, hotels, and a variety of commercial and residential buildings and refurbishments, including listed buildings.
Paul joined Cook and Butler in 1991, gaining his professional qualification in the same year. He was made an Associate in 2000 and a Full Partner in 2002. Cook and Butler became a founder member of Synergy Construction and Property Consultants LLP in April 2007.
As a Chartered Surveyor with over 35 years' experience he has worked across a wide variety of sectors, building types and procurement routes, with a particular specialism in education and ecclesiastical buildings.
His clients include local authorities, developers, independent schools, charities, churches and Dioceses amongst many others.
Stephen joined CM Parker Browne as an Associate in 2002. He was appointed a Full Partner in 2004 and following the mergers in 2007, is a founding Partner of Synergy.
With over 31 years' experience Stephen has accrued a wealth of experience in many sectors including education, leisure, healthcare and transportation. His clients include RHS Wisley, United Learning, Heathrow Airport and Woking Borough Council amongst many others.
Stephen is also the Partner in charge of training at Synergy. He has recently project managed the roll out of a comprehensive new training system and implemented new sophisticated staff procedures.
Paul's construction career started immediately from school, undertaking a four year apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery. After working on a number of historic buildings, it wasn't too long before Paul was managing multi-million pound projects on some of the country's finest historic buildings.
Paul joined the practice in 2002 (which was then CM Parker Browne) and was made a Full Partner of Synergy in 2008.
Paul now leads the project management department at Synergy and through extensive knowledge built over many years, he has led and managed construction projects across a diverse range of sectors including education, heritage, ecclesiastical, residential, commercial.
Paul also has a specific specialism in the heritage sector including listed buildings, scheduled monuments, historic royal palaces, security sensitive and consular buildings.
Paul’s clients include the Emily Estate, Bath Abbey, Corpus Christi College Oxford, Skinners’ Hall, Thameswey Developments and Tonbridge School amongst many others.
Tony joined the practice in 1988 (which was Parker & Browne), became an Associate in 2000 and a Full Partner in 2004.
He works closely with schools, Dioceses and Multi-Academy Trusts assisting with all aspects of school building development. His project range is extensive and includes new buildings, refurbishments, extensions, external and internal repairs and mechanical and electrical replacements.
Tony has particular specialism in the funding mechanisms for Academies and Voluntary Aided Schools and has supported numerous school clients with successful funding applications.
Tony is a Governor of St Mary's Infant School in Frensham.
Declan is a Chartered Building Surveyor and has been with Synergy Construction and Property Consultants LLP since 2002.
Declan works closely with a variety of schools mainly in the South of England overseeing extension and refurbishment projects from conception to completion and takes on the role of Contract Administrator and Lead designer.
He has successfully assisted numerous schools and academies in the preparation of bid documents to help them secure funding for new projects. In addition he has assisted schools with all stages of projects from feasibility /scheme proposals to detailed designing and statutory approvals including building regulations and planning.
Although primarily education based, Declan is also experienced in refurbishments in the leisure and ecclesiastical sectors.
Jon is a founding Partner of Synergy and one of it’s longest serving members, commencing his employment with Parker & Browne in 1991 as an assistant surveyor, primarily to work on a nationwide contract of refrigeration installations for Tesco Stores Ltd.
Jon was appointed an Associate of the practice in 1997 and promoted to Partner in 2003. Jon has in excess of 25 years experience in all aspects of quantity surveying, contract administration and project management. He has been instrumental in forging strong relationships with some of Synergy’s most loyal clients. Jon’s portfolio includes work in both Education and Commercial sectors, with clients such as UK Power Networks on the delivery of £300m infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympics, as well as several Independent schools including Caterham School, Luckley House School and Walthamstow Hall School.
David joined the practice in 1989 (then Parker & Browne) and became a Partner of Synergy in 2008.
With over 26 years experience in both project management and cost consultancy, David has worked on and led a diverse range of projects, from large scale retail fit outs, to the construction of new academies, and car showrooms for various brands.
Having spent two years training under Olympian and sports surfaces expert, John Cadman, David is also skilled in advising on the maintenance and construction of sports surfaces.
William joined Cook and Butler as a graduate in 1986 and became a Partner of Synergy following the mergers in April 2008.
William is a Chartered Surveyor and has vast experience across a wide variety of sectors and in particular with education, residential, healthcare and commercial projects in both the public and private sectors.
Neil joined the practice (then Parker & Browne) in March 1997 and was made a Partner in April 2008.
With over 25 years' experience in Cost Consultancy, Neil has acquired considerable knowledge within the Education, Ecclesiastical, Commercial and Residential sectors. He also has experience of the heritage sector recently working with St Mary’s Church on Watford High Street, which is Grade I Listed.
Across these sectors his portfolio of projects are diverse, from new builds, extensions, re-fits to refurbishment works.
Matthew became a Chartered Building Surveyor in 2007 and has nearly 20 years experience of advising clients in the education, commercial, residential and retail sectors.
With 15 years of this experience focused particularly in the education sector, Matthew has developed a thorough understanding of how school buildings work and recognises the priorities of education clients. He is highly skilled in numerous aspects of building surveying, including contract administration, building
pathology, undertaking inspections and managing project work from inception through to completion. His background also includes professional duties such as party wall and dilapidation roles. A natural team leader, Matthew maintains clear communication on even the most complex building projects and upholds a positive attitude that motivates and inspires his colleagues.
James has worked on projects in various sectors such as the conservation, restoration and refurbishment of historic buildings, prestigious high spec residential refurbishments, museums, hotels through to education and retail fit out projects.
He has had the opportunity to work on projects designed by some of the countries leading architects, and has worked with clients varying from private sector to multi-national companies.
James’s project portfolio includes the Newt in Somerset comprising the conversion of existing buildings, transformation of the Grade II*-listed building at the core of the Estate into a luxury hotel and construction of new estate buildings to form a commercially viable visitor attraction. This exciting development includes the award winning ‘The Story of Gardening’ museum.
Ron has been with Synergy for 10 years and is a highly experienced Project Manager with over 25 years in the industry. Ron is skilled in all aspects of Project Management though every stage of the development process; from feasibility, planning and design through to final construction. Ron’s main contracting background brings a wealth of knowledge to all his projects.
Ron has worked on a variety of projects from new builds to refurbishments for both public and private sector clients. In particular Ron has significant experience in the Education sector and has supported many schools with their development ambitions. Ron’s ethos is always to go the extra mile and to find positive outcomes to even the most complex challenges for his clients.
